February went by so quickly in room 2! We had another jam packed month with lots of fun & lots of learning!
Our theme this month was Spring. We learned so much about what happens to plants & animals in Spring when Winter ends. We have spotted some flowers starting to grow already, such as daffodils, as well as buds starting to grow on some of the trees around the school yard. We even planted some pea plants in the classroom too, hopefully in the future we can move them out to the garden as they start to grow! We made fabulous Spring flowers in art using different fabrics and fibre too.
Junior infants have start to write some simple words using our sounds we have learned so far. As well as that we have been learning all about the numbers 3 and 4 and have done lots of fun activities and games with these numbers in class. Senior infants had a busy month practicing our procedure writing. We read some simple recipes and even wrote our own simple recipes as a class – how to make popcorn & how to make pancakes (which was just in time for Pancake Tuesday!).
We had lots of fun & discussion in Aistear too with our Spring theme. Our role-play station was absolutely gleaming after all of the Spring-cleaning the girls did there. Our small-world station was a very bust farmyard, where lots of baby animals were being born in time for Spring. We had a construction station where the children had time to create their own Spring-inspired crafts using different junk/recyclables.
Finally, at the sensory station we made our own mud-pies from a mix of compost & water, which everyone really enjoyed!
