We hope all is well with you this fortnight. Our news is as follows:
Catholic Schools Week: This year Catholic Schools Week will be celebrated from Sunday 26th January to Sunday 2nd February. This year’s theme is ‘Living in Harmony with God’s Creation’. A whole school assembly will be held on Friday 31st January to celebrate Catholic Schools’ Week and St. Brigid’s Day. Because we are a Catholic School, this is a very special week in our calendar and it will be celebrated in many different ways throughout the week in each classroom.
St.Brigid’s Day: We will celebrate St. Brigid’s Day (1st February), the patron saint of our school on Friday 31st January. Pupils will tell stories and sing hymns about Brigid’s life. In preparation for this, the pupils will learn about Brigid’s life and the customs and traditions associated with our county saint. Our senior classes will make St. Brigid’s crosses and also help some of the younger pupils to make them.
Grandparents Day: On Wednesday 29th January all grandparents are invited to visit their grandchildren’s classrooms. This invitation to grandparents affirms and values their place not only in the lives of their grandchildren, but in the community in general. This annual visit has become a highlight of Catholic Schools Week at Bunscoil Bhríde. Each class will entertain grandparents with poems, songs and stories. Grandparents are also invited to look at children’s artwork and we would encourage them to share their memories and stories with the children. The Bunscoil Bhríde Parents’ Association have kindly volunteered to provide tea/coffee for the visiting grandparents in our school hall. This will hopefully facilitate some banter and reminiscing among our visitors. Any donation of baked goods for our grandparents would be greatly appreciate and can be dropped to the school on Wednesday morning next. While we hope lots of grandparents will visit our school on Wednesday the 31st, we are very conscious of the fact that not all children have grandparents living and also that not all grandparents will be able to make it to our school. For this reason, there will be arrangements put in place in all classrooms for the sharing of available grandparents, so nobody will be left out. It will be a fun, warm and welcoming day for all.

Credit Union Quiz: The annual Credit Union Quiz will take place on Friday 31st January in Rathangan Boys’ N.S. at 7.00pm. Pupils representing our school will wear their school uniform to the quiz. Teams from Bunscoil Bhríde have enjoyed great success at the quiz in recent years. We would like to wish all our teams the best of luck.
School Website: We are currently experiencing technical issues with our school website, for which we apologise. The site is currently unavailable. Please bear with us while we attempt to have these issues resolved.
Aladdin Connect: There are still a very small number of parents who are not receiving messages through Aladdin Connect. Please ensure you have registered for Aladdin Connect, downloaded the app and validated your mobile number. Teachers will be using Aladdin Connect to communicate messages / reminders etc. relating to class events to parents. Please contact the office if you have any queries in relation to Aladdin Connect or need any assistance.
Dates for the Diary for this term: All important events and dates for the diary for the remainder of the school year can be found by clicking on the calendar icon within the Aladdin Connect app. Please keep an eye on this calendar as events will be added throughout the year.
School Uniform: Please ensure your daughter is wearing the correct school uniform. The school tracksuit should only be worn on days the class are doing P.E.. If for some reason, your daughter is unable to wear part of her uniform on a given day, she should have a note in school explaining the reason for this.
Enrolments for 2020/21: We are now enrolling for September. Closing date for enrolments to Junior Infants for the 2020/21 school year is Friday 31st January. Enrolment forms have been distributed to the playschools / crèche in the town and are available from Catríona’s office and our school website www.bunscoilbhride.ie. Completed enrolment forms must be returned to the school no later than 31st January.
Heavy school-bags: We are attempting to address the issue of children carrying school bags that are too heavy to and from school, by asking them to unpack fully their bags every morning and only repack books marked for homework. Your help in tackling this issue is required as many of the items contained in school-bags are unnecessary ancillary items e.g. multiple heavy pencil-cases etc. Please go through your daughter’s bag with her and remove any unnecessary items.
Kind regards, Maria Rogerson

A letter was sent home to all parents in early January regarding a request to Kildare County Council for a signalised pedestrian crossing for the girls school and to request a continuation of the path from Sorrentos on main street to the boys school signalised pedestrian crossing.
If you think this is needed could you please sign, address the letter and hand back into the school. All signed submissions received will then be hand delivered to Kildare County Council.
Alternatively you can request these safety improvements or any other safety improvements you believe are needed for Rathangan by emailing Kildare County Council on firstname.lastname@example.org.
The request should be addressed to the Roads Department of Kildare County Council.
Or via post to :
Kildare County Council, Roads Department, Áras Chill Dara, Devoy Park, Naas, Co Kildare, W91 X77F
We have been in contact with the crèche, the boys school and the secondary school to also get behind this request to Kildare County Council. Hopefully by doing this and with a large number of requests we may get some road safety improvements done for the town of Rathangan and for our students.
Please feel free to copy this written submission and have all members of your household sign a separate written request. The letter template is available on the schools website.
The more requests Kildare County Council get for these pedestrian crossings etc the better our chances of getting much needed improvements for Our Town.
Note : any issues / defects / requests for improvements to any part of the County Kildare can also be logged via the fixmystreet website.
