1st class in room 4 have had a super first half-term! We have taken part in loads of activities & have had loads of fun!
In literacy we have done lots of practice on our reading, comprehension skills and phonics. Everyone has been working really hard so far & it is wonderful to see the progress made! We have daily maths stations working on counting skills, combining numbers, maths games/activities and problem-solving skills. The girls are really enjoying our cursive writing so far this year & it is lovely seeing their writing develop!
We chatted about signs of Autumn & went on nature walks outdoors to identify signs of Autumn. We learned about the Irish legend of Finn McCoul & the Giant, as well as the story of the Giant’s Causeway. We also listened to a wonderful read aloud story called the Leaf Man, before creating our own ‘leaf men’ using Autumn leaves we collected outdoors. We learned all about light this month, including sources of light, how shadows are made & how white light can be splt into the colours of the rainbow.
Finally, we also celebrated Maths Week this month, taking part in a variety of maths activities/games throughout the week. We played maths games daily, completed our school maths trail outdoors & even participated in a 1st/2nd class maths quiz in the halla. Everyone had great fun taking part in different activities and recognising maths is all around us.
We are hopeful that everyone has a great mid-term break before returning to school for another fun-filled half-term!
