Engineers’ Week – Lock 25 Barrow Line
Ms. De Faoite’s Fifth Class visited Lock 25 on the Barrow Line of the Grand Canal at Monasterevin on Wednesday 21st March. The girls saw a lifting road bridge in operation and learnt about the automated mechanisms required to make this happen. They met with an engineer and lock keeper who provided insight into their work and they got the opportunity of viewing a lock system in operation. The trip was hosted by Waterways Ireland for Engineers’ Week and the bus was fully funded by the Board of Management.
