Canal Walk

This week the girls in 6th class were lucky to receive a fantastic talk from Nuala Madigan on the canal! We started by learning all about the Royal and the Grand Canal in the halla, before walking to the canal right here in Rathangan the next day. Nuala told us all about how the canals were built for transportational purposes and how they were utilised in the 1800’s and the 1900’s. Nuala had a collection of insects and creatures that are found in the canal such as newts, water beetles and Caddisfly larvae. We had to identify them using keys. We also studied the colours on the canal by creating colour dabs. See some pictures of our outing below.
