Our First Student-led Assembly

Our first student-led assembly took place on Friday 29th of September. Ms de Faoite’s 6th class and Ms Ryan’s Junior Infants led the assembly and it was a huge success. Our 6th class representatives from the Green Schools Committee and our Well-being Committee updated the school on upcoming initiatives and events. Girls from 6th class announced all the birthdays in the school for August and September and we sang happy birthday to them. Junior Infants sang a sang they had learned ‘Leaves are Falling’. 6th Class have been learning about The Great Famine and sang ‘Fields of Athenry’. Eimear informed the school that it was written about a man who stole corn and was sent away to Botany Bay in Australia on a prison ship. Our debating team Ava Haughan, Alice Beary, Lily Broderick, Róisín Mather, Rosie Ryan, Maria Pop, Clara O’Loughlin, Brooke Redfern, Róise Stenson, Ornaith Manning and Anna Kenna proposed the motion that “All children in Ireland should have access to a playground”. There were fantastic, thought-provoking rebuttals from all the classes.

Well done to 6th class and Junior Infants for a hugely enjoyable first assembly of the year!
